The basis of counselling is listening. There are times in our lives when we experience distressing events and feelings which seem to have no solution in sight. People seek counselling for a wide range of reasons including failed relationships, issues from the past, difficulties at work, loss of employment, depression, anxiety, bereavement, addiction, sexual, emotional or physical abuse, gender confusion, eating disorders, personal growth and social problems.
Frequently, people decide to seek counselling in order to assist with their process of personal development and growth. Counsellors do not offer suggestions or solutions, preferring instead to help you find your own answers and solutions to your problem by helping you to identify your own resources. By learning to understand your thoughts and feelings you can take back control of your life and arrive at your own positive decisions about your future.
