  • War
  • Natural disaster (earthquake)
  • Tragedies (plane/train/car crash)

Individuals with post traumatic stress disorder may experience numerous memories of the event in the form of flashbacks or nightmares. Even situations that remind the sufferer of the traumatic event can have a direct effect. Occasionally, post traumatic stress may not show up for many years after the traumatic event and this can include repressed trauma in childhood which becomes active in adulthood. However, symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder usually appear within several weeks of the traumatic event. Some Symptoms of (PTSD) may include:

  • Re-living of the event
  • Recurring nightmares
  • Intrusive images
  • A need to avoid reminders of the event (people/places)
  • A withdrawing from friends and family
  • Extreme emotion when faced with the reminders of the event
  • Sudden feelings of anger
  • Experiencing a hyper-aroused state at all times
  • Feelings of being easily startled
  • Difficulty sleeping
