According to some researchers around 65 per cent of adults in the UK are overweight which has lead to an increase in obesity. The level of obesity among children and young people is also rising.  Being overweight can stop a person from getting the best out of life. It can also lead to health problems such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, depression, high blood pressure, infertility, stroke, arthritis, joint and back pain, stress, anxiety, gallstones, indigestion and certain cancers.

It has been reported that weight problems and obesity may soon overtake cigarette smoking as a serious health risk. Being overweight is usually caused by an unhealthy diet and a lack of proper exercise. However, there are other factors which contribute towards weight gain such as genetic and medical problems.
